The participants of the Rachmaninoff International Youth Piano Competition chose grand pianos on March 20 in the evening after the draw.

Instruments presented at the competition: Yangtze river, Yamaha CFX and Steinway.

Wu Xuanxiang (China) and Li Junjie (China) will play the Yangtze river piano.

The Yamaha CFX grand piano was chosen by: Fedor Orlov (Russia) and Lev Bakirov (Russia).

The rest of the contestants chose Steinway.

The International Youth Piano Competition named after Sergei Rachmaninoff will be held in March 21-26, 2023 – the year of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff – in Veliky Novgorod, in the composer’s native region.

The Novgorod Regional Philharmonic named after A. Arensky will host a concert “Towards the International Youth Piano Competition named after Sergei Rachmaninoff” on March 21 at 19:00. Soloist – Ivan Bessonov, the First Prize laureate of the International Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors named after Sergei Rachmaninoff, which was very successfully held in Moscow in 2022 on the eve of the anniversary of the great musician. An Honored Artist of Russia Yuri Tkachenko will conduct the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra. The concert program includes works by Sergei Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2 and Rhapsody on Paganini Theme.

The concert as well as all the stages of the Competition will be broadcast online with the support of the largest Russian social network Vkontakte.

The entire current musical year, declared the Year of Rachmaninoff on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the composer, is a marathon of concerts, homages, festivals to be held in all Russian halls.

From Sakhalin to Donetsk: 224 works from 40 regions of Russia were submitted to the All-Russian drawing competition “The World of Rachmaninoff”

On February 28 the acceptance of applications for participation in the All-Russian drawing competition “The World of Rachmaninoff” was completed. In total, 224 works from 40 regions of Russia were sent to the competition: Donetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Sverdlovsk, Kaluga, Kemerovo, Lipetsk, Ulyanovsk, Omsk, Vologda, Tambov, Belgorod, Leningrad, Volgograd, Moscow, Orenburg, Saransk, Murmansk, Tver, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Sakhalin, Tula, Kirov, Bryansk, Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen, Novgorod, Samara, Pskov regions; Stavropol, Altai, Primorsky and Krasnodar Territories; Republics of Bashkortostan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Komi, Tatarstan, Crimea, Chuvashia, as well as from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – YUGRA.

Based on the results of the selection, the experts from the Russian National Museum of Music will choose 40 finalists, 5 of which will become the winners. As a result of the art competition, during the days of the International Youth Piano Competition named after Sergei Rachmaninoff, an exhibition of the works -finalists “The World of Rachmaninoff” will be held at the Children’s Music School No. 1 named after Sergei Rachmaninoff, which was reopened after a large-scale renovation at the end of 2022.

The competition consists of a qualifying round (video), as well as live I and II (final) rounds. 15 pianists are allowed to participate in the live rounds. According to the results of the competition, the finalists will be awarded 5 prizes of a laureate of the competition in the amount of 350 thousand rubles and 10 prizes of a competition diploma holder of 100 thousand rubles each. The Grand Prix winner will be determined according to the results of the performance of the laureates in the final gala concert.

120 applications for participation in the International Youth Piano Competition named after Sergei Rachmaninoff have been received from 8 countries of the world

On February 22 we completed the acceptance of applications for participation in the International Youth Piano Competition named after Sergei Rachmaninov. In total, 120 applications from 8 countries of the world were submitted for the competition: Russia, Belarus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, China, Colombia, Norway and Uzbekistan. The largest number of applications came from Russia and China.

“I am very glad that our competition aroused interest not only in Russia but also in other countries. And I am happy that the hometown of this great Russian pianist, composer and conductor will become the center of attraction for fans of the piano art in the anniversary Year of Rachmaninoff,” said Denis Matsuev, artistic director of the competition.

Upon completion of all technical procedures for processing applications, the next stage will begin: the jury members will conduct a virtual selection of participants based on the submitted videos. The results of the qualifying round will be announced in the coming days.

Born in 2004 in Minsk (Belarus).

A student of the Republican College of Music at the Belarus State Academy of Music.

Already at the age of 7 she gave her first solo concert performing 11 pieces of the “Children’s Album” by P. Tchaikovsky.

A laureate of numerous competitions and a winner of special prizes, including: the X International Competition for Young Pianists named after T. Nikolaeva (the Grand Prix and a special prize for the best performance of a piece by T. Nikolaeva, Bryansk), a three times laureate of the International Children’s Competition “Music of Hope” (Belarus, Gomel), the XXI International Competition for Young Pianists named after Maria Yudina (I prize. St. Petersburg), the XXVIII International Competition for Young Musicians maned after D. Kabalevsky (I prize. Samara).

A scholarship holder of the Yuri Rozum International Charity Foundation.

Along with improving her piano skills, Iris also tries herself as a composer of piano music.
