Olga Lyubimova about the International Youth Piano Competition

“Talented musicians from around the world were looking forward to the International Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors named after S. Rachmaninoff. The project was held for the first time and became a global event, attracted many contestants and proved that our art is open to everyone. In the anniversary year of the legendary musician we are launching its “satellite” – the International Youth Piano Competition named after S. Rachmaninoff. I am sure that the creative review will not only demonstrate the bright professional achievements of the participants, but will also allow us to see the trends in the development of the world musical art,” said Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

“I invite all talented children to take part in this unique competition named after the unrivalled pianist of all time – Sergei Rachmaninoff,” says Denis Matsuev. “I think it would be impossible to celebrate his anniversary year more vividly than to hold a youth competition named after him, which, I am sure, will light up new stars and give the world a whole generation of the brightest musicians.”

Acceptance of applications for the International Youth Piano Competition named after S.V. Rachmaninov started

The International Youth Piano Competition named after S.V. Rachmaninoff will be held for the first time in March 21-26, 2023 (the year of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff) in Veliky Novgorod, the composer’s native region.

The competition will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Applications are now open and will last until February, 15. Musicians aged 10 to 18 inclusive at the time of the start of the competition can participate. You can send an application and get acquainted with the conditions of the competition on the official website: www.rachmaninoff-youth.com.

The Official opening of the first International Youth Piano Competition named after S.V. Rachmaninov is scheduled for March 21 at the Novgorod Regional Philharmonic. Denis Matsuev, pianist, the People’s Artist of Russia will be the artistic director and chairman of the jury. The jury will include prominent figures of Russian and foreign culture as well as famous musicians.

The organization and holding of the competition will be carried out by the Federal State Budgetary Cultural Institution ROSCONCERT with the support of the Government of the Novgorod Region.

Born in 2004 in Minsk (Belarus).

A student of the Republican College of Music at the Belarus State Academy of Music.

Already at the age of 7 she gave her first solo concert performing 11 pieces of the “Children’s Album” by P. Tchaikovsky.

A laureate of numerous competitions and a winner of special prizes, including: the X International Competition for Young Pianists named after T. Nikolaeva (the Grand Prix and a special prize for the best performance of a piece by T. Nikolaeva, Bryansk), a three times laureate of the International Children’s Competition “Music of Hope” (Belarus, Gomel), the XXI International Competition for Young Pianists named after Maria Yudina (I prize. St. Petersburg), the XXVIII International Competition for Young Musicians maned after D. Kabalevsky (I prize. Samara).

A scholarship holder of the Yuri Rozum International Charity Foundation.

Along with improving her piano skills, Iris also tries herself as a composer of piano music.
