The Grand opening of the Rachmaninoff International Youth Competition

The Grand opening of the Rachmaninoff International Youth Piano Competition took place on the stage of the Novgorod Regional Philharmonic named after A. Arensky.

The competition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the outstanding musician was opened by the Governor of the Novgorod region Andrey Nikitin: “Dear friends, dear guests! I welcome you to the ancient Novgorod land. This is the land where the history of our country began, the assemblage point of the Russian history and culture. And, perhaps, it is not surprising that great people, such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, were born here.
I am very happy that this Competition has appeared, I am happy that it is taking place here, on the Novgorod land. I want to wish victory to all the participants, contestants. I am sure that future world stage stars will arise here.”

The Moscow Academic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yuri Tkachenko, performed music by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The soloist – Artistic director of the competition Denis Matsuev.

The International Youth Piano Competition will continue its work until March 26. Online broadcasts of all the stages of the contest will be supported by the largest Russian social network VKontakte. The events of the musical competition will be available live on the official website of the Competition, as well as in its official VKontakte community in March 21-26.
